Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr RA says that Rasulullah (saws) was asked: “Who among men is the best?” He (saws) replied: “Everyone who is pure of heart (Makhmumul Qalb) and truthful of tongue (Sadooqul Lisaan).” They enquired: “Truthful of Tongue”—we know what this is. But what is “Makhmumul Qalb”? He (saws) said : “It is (the heart) that is pure and pious upon which there is no sin, transgression, deceit, malice or envy in it.”

~ Sunan Ibn Majah

These two Arabic words in this Hadith :
*Sadooqul Lisaan : A person who is truthful and who’s tongue always utters that which is correct (not false). When a person lies, then those angels that are around him, move far away from him, because of the odour and stench that emanates from the mouth.

*Makhmumul Qalb : Literally, the word means, ‘the heart must be swept’ (cleansed). That heart which is pure, clean, pious, righteous has no sin on it, no black spots on it and there are no traces of malice in it.

• Rasulullah (saws) said, “Whosoever gives me a guarantee that he will safeguard what is between his jaws (the tongue) and what is between his legs (the private parts), I shall guarantee him Jannah.” (Bukhari) …

Hazrat Anas bin Malik (r.a) reported: Rasulullah (saws) said to me, “O boy, if you are able every morning and evening to remove any rancor from your heart towards anyone, then do so. O boy, that is my tradition (sunnah) and whoever revives my tradition has loved me, and whoever loves me will be with me in Paradise.”(Tirmidhi)
